Certainly, the Trégor spirits are popular.
In addition to the six medals won by Warenghem at Lannion for its Armorik whiskeys World Spirits Awards in Paris at the end of September, on the gin side, it’s the Ar Roc’h distillery who came back with a bronze medal for his 10 on Earth.
“A Yellow gin, or Golden Gin, aged in acacia barrels for 9 months”, informs its creator, Sébastien Famel. What’s more, in a unique setting: “On the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, a magnificent room”.
10 local plants
Bronze, silver or gold, these distinctions have become almost commonplace for our distiller, after those obtained for La Roche Sauvage, a tribute to this Breton terroir nestled between land and sea and La Roche Facile Mer, with iodized flavors, those of local plants picked by the sea. Two bronze-colored gins in 2002 and 2023 in Paris.
Plants of Trégor
As for the 10 de Terre appellation, it brings back the 10 plants picked in the heart of Trégor:
“Elderberry and chestnut flowers which bloom at the golf course of Bgard in zero phyto, still others from the banks of the La Roche pond, or this vanilla which grows in Penvénan”.
Sébastien Famel.
To be enjoyed, according to Sébastien, “like a digestive, by the fire.” Or a little cooler, in a barely iced glass, for an aperitif.”
Blind tastings
This recognition for the craftsman also has, according to him, “a reassuring effect for consumers”, especially since, like the very famous General Agricultural Competition, Tastings are carried out blind, by professionals.
The only difference is that at the World Spirits Awards, it is more of a judgment than a competition.
“Indeed, if the vintage presented in its category does not reflect the required quality, gold or silver may not be awarded.”
Perfect Love
A rich year, certainly, for Roch production since its lemon and coriander liqueur, Perfect Amour, also won a gold medal at the famous Lyon International Competitionin April, in the “Herbal Liqueur” category.
A price which once again honors the local terroir with organic coriander from Ty Légumes, in Plouguiel.
“A very old liqueur recipe, to be enjoyed as a dijo with crushed ice or as an aperitif with a sparkling white wine, Kir Royal style. And in the kitchen, in homemade mayo, pastry cream or cheesecake.”
Create your own gin or liqueur
An art of distillation rewarded at the national level that Sébastien Famel likes to share during creative workshops implemented this year.
“Saturdays from February to October, a super fun moment, where amateurs create in two hours, with the ingredients available, their own gin or liqueur according to their desire”.
