New subsidy contracts disrupt the performing arts

Much late, contracts of a new type are being offered to theaters and companies: a new tone, fewer figures, self-evaluation. The operators say they are surprised, happy… or frightened.

Sseven months after the detailed publication of the new multi-year performing arts grants (The evening of November 18) and while the dozens of appeals have not yet produced their effects (The evening of May 31), the administration and the office of the Minister of Culture Bénédicte Linard (Ecolo) are struggling to finalize the contracts which mark out these subsidies, much more numerous and diverse than under the old decree. Remember that these subsidies and their contracts have in theory been in force since 1er last January, for 3 to 5 years. However, even after the elections, major operators



did not even have a draft contract.
