Everywhere he goes, the press awaits him with the same questions. While traveling in the Norwegian capital, Crown Prince Haakon decided to break the silence and speak out on the affair affecting his son-in-law, Marius Borg Høiby. The future king of Norway’s last speech on the subject dates back to August 7, a few days after the young man’s arrest for domestic violence. “It would not be appropriate to go into details,” he then declared, before obviously saying he was “affected” by the affair.
On November 4, visiting the Memory and Learning Center of the Al-Noor mosque, victim of an attack in 2019, the son of King Harald V and Queen Sonja answered questions from the daily Dagbladet. Asked about the latest developments in the investigation, Haakon replied: “This is an ongoing police matter, so the investigation is there. In the meantime, we have to try to do our job as best we can .”
Asked whether he and his wife were questioned by the police about the charges against Marius, the crown prince demurred. “I can’t say anything more about these things at the moment and I think I’ll leave it there, it’s the police who should handle this matter,” he declared while a of the plaintiffs demands that Crown Princess Mette-Marit be summoned by the police under the status of witness.
Another hot topic is the idea of preferential treatment reserved by the judicial authorities for the royal family. “I think there are many opinions on this subject and perhaps that is natural; at the same time, we must try to do our job, and then the police can investigate,” the prince simply replied heir. Not sure that the Norwegian press, which is following the setbacks of Marius Borg Høiby very closely, will be satisfied with these comments.
