It’s a colorful evening, marked by laughter and good humor offered by the CinéFerté association in La Ferté-Macé (Orne), and particularly Christine Collado and Laurence Sowthe two volunteers who set up this project.
“On August 15, I was in Deauville at the premiere of the film The Bearded Mermaidwhich is the name of a cabaret in Dieppe, says Christine. I had the opportunity to meet the director Nicolas Bellencman and I asked him if it would be possible for him to come and perform with his artists at the Salle Gérard-Philippe, before the screening of the film.” An invitation that he accepted.
Our CinéFerté association is always inclined towards entertainment, but also towards living well together. She thus wishes to share with her audience the lives of these artists with such emotion and authenticity.
Every year, CinéFerté also offers an Arc-en-Ciel week with LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) films. The next one is scheduled for June 2025.
“Accept differences”
On November 7, spectators will be treated to a drag show for three quarters of an hour with glitter, wigs and false eyelashes.
“You have to let yourself be caught up in the game,” emphasizes Christine Collado. The film is a beautiful life lesson which reminds us that we must live as we are, accepting our differences.”
At the end of the screening, the public will be able to meet and interact with the drag queens and the director Nicolas Bellenchombre, who constantly repeats: “the noblest art is to make people happy”.
Behind the costumes
Released on October 2, and co-directed by Nicolas Bellenchombre and Arthur Delamotte, the film “The Bearded Mermaid” lasts 1 hour 35 minutes. The story is as follows.
The drag queens of the “La Sirène à Barbe” cabaret put on a grandiose show, singing, circus, dancing, something never before seen in the city of Dieppe. Erwan, a local fisherman, is under the spell.
He then ventures into their world of joy and celebration and discovers, behind the costumes of the stage characters, tormented, solitary humans, too sensitive but ready to do anything to take this project as far as possible. The portrait of a small port town inhabited as much by gloomy daily lives as by extraordinary destinies.
Thursday, November 7, 8:30 p.m., Gérard-Philipe room, 8, rue Saint-Denis. Usual prices: €6.50; reduced €5. Contact: 02.33.38.29.02.
