The Geneva Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to Gabriel Fauré during a music marathon all day Sunday at the Lyrique and Monday evening at the BFM.
2024 marks 100 years since the death of the famous French composer Gabriel Fauré. To mark the occasion, the OCG wants to take the viewer into a real marathon with all the instrumental chamber music written by the mustachioed master. The event will welcome Simon Zaoui, internationally recognized for his mastery of Fauré’s work, as well as Pierre Fouchenneret, his long-time partner who will join him for the sonatas and the trio.
Here and there, the voice of soprano Marion Tassou will accompany Simon Zaoui in this journey through the musical work of the French composer. “There is an undeniable harmonic complexity,” describes the singer about the French composer.
Fauré’s requiem is special. “It’s in the collective unconscious. Everyone can sing a part of the requiem, it’s a great responsibility that we will have on Monday,” notes Marion Tassou mischievously. The late composer declared that he had written this requiem “for nothing, for pleasure”. An almost “unnatural” birth which gives a singular tone to the work. “It’s almost naive, it’s deceptively simple,” explains the soprano.
The tribute, filmed as an experience of immersion and elevation, can be experienced all day Sunday at the Le Lyrique restaurant and Monday evening at the Building of the Motive Forces.
