American host and model Heidi Klum once again outdid herself this year for Halloween by dazzling her guests in her expressive ET the alien costume with the glowing finger.
“Heidi calls home!” reacted many Internet users who were impatiently awaiting the unveiling of the disguise of the one whom many nicknamed the “Queen of Halloween”.
For the 23rd annual Halloween party at New York City’s Hard Rock Hotel, the 51-year-old model made a lengthy, dramatic entrance alongside her husband, Tom Kaulitz, before appearing in the costume of the legendary character from Steven Spielberg’s film, released in 1982, according to CNN.
Both dressed as ET – Heidi Klum with a wig, a dress and lipstick in a nod to one of the scenes in the film – they introduced themselves to the crowd, barely letting their faces appear in the neck of the character, under an animatronic head blinking its eyes and moving its mouth.
To complete it all, the host demonstrated that her index finger could light up, causing admiration in the crowd, according to videos shared on her Instagram page.
In an interview with the New York Times, the fifty-year-old revealed that the special effects of her costume were controlled remotely by a member of her team, while the motorized head weighed around five pounds, CNN reported.
She also said she wore an adult diaper under the costume just in case, due to the difficulty in removing it during the party.
“Maybe I’ll never need it, but at least this way I won’t have to think about it,” she said, according to the American media.
To give this effect, the actress’ entire body and face would have been glued together in the process, explained Mike Marino, the Hollywood prosthetic designer behind many of its most intricate Halloween costumes.
“It actually takes months to build and design [ce type de costume]“, he clarified, adding that this one was “probably the most complicated that we have ever done”, according to CNN.
The German, who fell in love with Halloween after moving to the United States, has been holding her annual parties since October 31, 2000.
