Last Thursday, sixth and fifth grade students from Pierre-Bayrou college, as well as CM 2 students from the neighboring school, benefited from the arrival of the Papageno Bus. This new itinerant opera proposed by the Opéra national du Capitole travels on the roads of Occitanie to give schools access to the opera.

This performance of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, created by Dorian Astor and Frédérique Lombart, introduces young people to classical music by offering a version in French, with a modern staging and in a shortened time ( 1 hour), with four singers and an accordionist.

Ms. Hirtzig, music education teacher at the college, had prepared the arrival of the Papageno Bus with her students in advance by introducing them to the original history of the opera and the different possible stagings. Thus prepared and initiated, the students were able to fully enjoy the performance.

Furthermore, one of the fifth grade classes had worked on the theme of “The Magic Flute” with the visual artist, Ms. Maisongrande, in partnership with the Musée des Abattoirs. The students imagined plastic works which could have served as a setting for the performance (decor, objects, costumes).

This multidisciplinary project particularly illustrates the college’s desire to promote access to culture for all.
