“So much homogeneity and big names, I don’t know if I would come across a collection like that one day! » On Friday June 14, 2024, at 2 p.m., Maître Tugdual Borel, auctioneer in Saint-Brieuc, will orchestrate an exceptional auction at the Hôtel Drouot, in Paris. Fernand Léger, Picasso, Georges Braque: big names in art history appear in this collection.

These works, collected since the 1940s, offer an eclectic panorama ranging from the 14th century to the second half of the 20th century. Discovered by Maître Borel in 2012, it testifies to the passion and expertise of Madame T., an experienced collector from Saint-Brieuc and living on the Emerald Coast. “This is an owner who decided, during her lifetime, which is rare, to part with her collection,” indicates the auctioneer.

Key works of the sale

Among the major pieces are: Georges Braque, with “Le Canard” (1961), a color lithograph, representing the artist’s achievement in abstraction. Bernard Buffet, “Turbot on a Table” (1948), an oil on canvas, notable for its expressionist force. Fernand Léger, with “Métamorphose”, a unique gouache signed and dedicated.

“We are lucky to participate in the sale of this gouache by Fernand Léger, because there are many fakes that are sold. Here, we are sure of its traceability, it is dedicated to the director of a play from the 1930s.” In all, 210 lots will be on offer, including 105 of art from the Far East. An oil painting by Paul Sérusier, an engraving by Picasso or even Chinese works from the 15th century: “It’s six centuries of art history. »

Exhibition of Lots

Art lovers will be able to admire the pieces before the sale during several exhibitions planned in Plérin and at the Hôtel Drouot. The exhibitions at Plérin will be held on June 5, 7 and 8, while the exhibitions at the Hôtel Drouot will take place on June 13 and 14, offering multiple opportunities to discover these treasures. “We are lucky to be able to hold this sale at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris. » Recently opened to provincial commissioners, it is one of the largest public auction places in the world, since 1852.

Thirteen of the most important works are currently on display at the Hôtel Drouot. On July 5, “a more modest sale of the rest of Madame T.’s collection will be offered in Saint-Brieuc. »
