Wildlife and technology inspire designers at Riyadh Fashion Week

RIYADH: The third day of Riyadh Fashion Week (RFW) saw Saudi brands Mona Alshebil, Abadia, Razan Alazzouni, ArAm and Kaf by Kaf showcase their latest collections, with designers exploring themes such as wildlife and flora of Saudi Arabia and the influence of technology on fashion.

One of the highlights of the event was the ArAm parade by Arwa Al-Ammari, which celebrated the flora and fauna of Saudi Arabia. The collection drew inspiration from the country’s rich natural heritage with a focus on rarely seen animals, such as the oryx, Arabian leopard, Arabian wolf and Arabian bustard. In addition to these creatures, the collection drew its aesthetic influences from native plants such as sider (Ziziphus spina), arar (juniper), arak (Salvadora Persica), sheh (Artemisia), sant ( Acacia), legada (Haloxylon Persicum) and athoba (Senegalia Mellifera).

These animals and plants are of great cultural importance and often feature in Arabic poetry and idioms. They serve as symbols of beauty and resilience deeply rooted in Saudi heritage.

Abdullah Al-Shehri, the only Saudi model to walk the runway at the ArAm show, shared his experience, saying: “I represented Arwa Al-Ammari’s work today and honestly the show was spectacular . The collection was so creative and I’m really happy to be part of this RFW show for the second year in a row. »

After the show, Kaf by Kaf took the stage to vividly present designer Kawthar Alhoraish’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, aptly titled “Artificial Beauty.” The collection explored the tension between technology and nature, looking at the contradictions that arise when organic forms collide with artificial constructions.

The collection was not only a showcase of fashion, but also a commentary on the interplay between the organic and the synthetic.

Shouq, a prominent influencer who has worn pieces from Kaf by Kaf, expressed her admiration for the collection. When I first read the title “Artificial Beauty,” I was intrigued. But when I saw the robot model strutting down the catwalk, everything clicked. The reflective skirts and overall theme were executed brilliantly. “I was really impressed and found myself wanting every piece in the collection,” she told Arab News.

Using a robotic model was a bold choice, symbolizing the fusion of fashion and technology. It reinforced the theme of the collection and made a strong statement about the future of fashion. Kaf by Kaf’s exploration of artificial beauty challenges traditional notions and invites a conversation about the role of technology in our lives and how it shapes our understanding of aesthetics.
