What is a dream for? How long does it last? What does it represent for different cultures and societies?

It is all of these universal questions that the Musée des Confluences de Lyon is trying to answer through its new exhibition “The Time of a Dream”, visible until August 24, 2025 and joining “Secrets of the Earth”, “Epidemics, taking care of the living” and “In the forest with Vincent Munier”.

Neuroscience laboratory, couches…

“We spend years dreaming and yet we don’t keep much of it. It is a phenomenon which has no use in our contemporary societies, which is a little absent, which slips away, because we come up against its elusive nature,” presents Yoann Cormier, project manager of the exhibition.

A subject that concerns us all, the dream phenomenon is indeed very difficult to understand. The objective of this unique visit, which extends over 1000 m² with a route of nine stops, is therefore to follow in the footsteps of the dream and try to obtain a definition.

Through an original setting, made up of a neuroscience laboratory, an art gallery or even a psychoanalyst’s office, visitors are immersed in the depths of night and sleep. Couches, on which it is possible to lie down to listen to a testimony, a story, music or a literary text, are also part of the scenography.

Of course, the exhibition does not forget to speak nightmaresa form of dream which can be traumatic but which nonetheless remains extremely interesting.
