The Strasbourg-Lyon air link will cease in March 2025 due to insufficient profitability. In five months, the train will become the quickest alternative.
As of March 30, 2025, Air France will definitively cease its direct air connection between Strasbourg and Lyon, a decision motivated by the decline in profitability of this route. The airline confirmed this information toAFPspecifying that the line suffered from a “deterioration of economic performance“, aggravated by the general reduction in business travel and the rise of videoconferencing. This flight lasting 1 hour 10 minutes also allowed connections to other destinations from Lyon airport. From now on, travelers will have to opt for the train, which connects the two cities in 3 hours 40 minutes via direct TGV links.
This closure marks the total withdrawal of Air France from Strasbourg airport, where it will no longer offer direct flights. The company also points to the increase in train travel as a major reason for this change. SNCF offers direct journeys between Lyon and Strasbourg, as well as options with connections via Paris. Air France, which was the only company to offer this direct flight, ensures that employees affected by this decision will be redeployed without forced departures or changes in workplace.
