The musical group Chico & the Gypsies returns to the forefront with a new record, the release of a book “Under the Gypsy Stars” and a church tour starting November 1st in Annecy. On the program: Christmas carols and sacred songs.
Chico & the Gypsies didn’t do things by halves. It is with three new products that they are returning to the forefront. The group announces a new record as well as the start of a tour in churches from November 1 in Annecy, with Christmas carols and sacred songs. “We really put an incredible heart into it because it’s the churches, it’s God, it’s faith, it’s everything I love,” confesses Chico.
Believe in your lucky star
Great figure of gypsy music and founder of the group, Chico releases his new book Under the gypsy stars this Thursday, October 17. His real name is Jahloul Bouchikhi, in his book he combines his journey with his personal life: from the assassination of his brother through his adoption by the gypsy community to his friendship with Brigitte Bardot. He inevitably returns to the creation of the Gispy Kings, a group on which no music producer was banking. And yet, they are the first French people to win a gold record in the United States. Today, 25 million records are sold around the world.
“When we did our first concerts in London, we had words from Lady Di who sent us a message, apologizing for not being there. Eric Clapton, who came to thank us at the end saying, you are incredible guitarists and we didn’t even recognize him, honestly, we didn’t even know who he was when he came to see us,” says Chico.
