The Association of Friends of the Georges Labit Museum celebrated its 30th anniversary a few days ago, although no reopening date is yet known.

The Georges Labit museum, located at the corner of rue du Japon and boulevard Monplaisir, municipal museum of dedicated to the arts of ancient Egypt and Asia, has still been under construction for almost two years due to “fragilities of building elements and dilapidated technical equipment. No reopening date has yet been announced. The total cost of the work for the reopening is estimated at €8,100,000, specifies the Capitole. Which did not prevent the Association of Friends of the Georges Labit Museum from celebrating its 30th anniversary at the beginning of October. On the occasion of this anniversary, around a hundred members, speakers and the museum team gathered around Pierre Esplugas-Labatut, deputy mayor, David Madec, director of museums and monuments of Toulouse and Josiane Clergue-Pomarède, president of the Association, in the museum gardens, during an aperitif and Nepali-Indian buffet dinner.

The main objective of the association is to promote initiation to Asian arts and civilizations through conferences and shows, but also to defend the preservation of the museum which has become an empty shell, and to find patrons to accelerate its reopening. . On this occasion, members of the Association were able to learn about the program of the next conferences for the 2nd half of 2024, which will be held in the Mesuret room of the Musée des Arts Précieux Paul Dupuy, due to the renovation work currently being undertaken at the Musée Georges Labit: The Odalisque, fantasy of painters (October 19), the Gutai Movement (November 23), Queens and women of power in Pharaonic Egypt (December 7), early celebration of the Chinese New Year with the Shen Yun show (11 January). The trip to Genoa, scheduled for May 2025, will mark one of the flagship events of next year.
