Franche-Comté. The director of the Eurockéennes de Belfort Jean-Paul Roland is made a knight of Arts and Letters

It was in the salons of the prefecture that Jean-Paul Roland, patron of the Eurockéennes de Belfort, was awarded the insignia of Arts and Letters with the rank of knight, this Tuesday evening. The person concerned learned of this distinction at the end of last year from Rima Abdlul Malak, then Minister of Culture.

Protocol does not rhyme with rock’n’roll

For the occasion, the protocol was shaken up a little, the prefect of the Territoire de Belfort Raphaël Sodini leaving it to Fanny Bouyagui, artist, creator of the Art Point M agency and above all close friend of Jean-Paul Roland, pin the latter. Which made the prefect say with a smile: “When we try to wrap rock’n’roll into protocol, it doesn’t work. »

Raphaël Sodini did not fail to return to the journey of Jean-Paul Roland, who passed through The Republican East as artistic director, before joining the communications department of the regional council in 1993 and until 2000. At the same time, he occupied from 1995 to 1998 the position of musical artistic advisor of the Eurockéennes to the president of the Territoire de musiques association, before to become director in 2001, thus taking the reins of the festival.

The prefect underlined three essential qualities, “commitment at every moment, responsibility, professionalism”, when Fanny Bouyagui described a man “hardworking with a smile, talkative, funny, greedy, generous, madly in love with music, curious, caring, but above all stubborn. Without forgetting your fashion victim side. »

The dedication to his father

“Helping to make large gatherings and crowds considered not as potential threats but as visible expressions of a humanity of sharing and joy, it ultimately became my job,” summed up Jean-Paul Roland from the outset. . He also had a word for Christian Proust, who gave him the “keys to the truck” of the Eurocks – “You changed my life” -, the festival team whose “enthusiasm carries me”, Matthieu Pigasse and his entire family, particularly dedicating this distinction to his father Alexandre. Before thanking Honoré de Balzac, Little Richard, Dolly Parton, El Greco and even Jim Carrey.
