The beautiful Dutch girl will certainly be surprised this year when she hits the Jazzablanca stage. She knows the festival since she performed there in 2015, but at the Hippodrome, a smaller space than that of Anfa Park, the event having happily evolved. Since then, Candy Dulfer has released two studio albums, “Together” and “We Never Stop”. Currently and until 2025, she is diving body and soul into the “We Funk Harder Tour”. In Casablanca, a merger awaits him under the direction of the eclectic Mehdi Nassouli.

The saxophonist will cross swords with the burgeoning Gnaouie artist Hind Ennaira. And to think that Candy collects prestigious collaborations: Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Prince, Bono (U2), Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Blondie, Maceo Parker (James Brown’s saxophone)… That’s what she says of Prince in 2019 on the columns of the French regional newspaper Nice-Matin: “He was someone extraordinary. I wrote to him one day that I wanted to be in his group. He read the little note I had slipped him. One day I got a phone call and we ended up with him and Maceo Parker on the “Musicology” record tour. I was very lucky, really. It was a very nice experience. » On the other hand, she does not hold Keith Jarrett in her heart. This is explained by an anecdote: “From the age of 2 to 15, I went to concerts in Juan-les-Pins with my father who knew all the musicians. I saw Miles Davis but also Johnny Hallyday and Keith Jarrett. I actually have a horrible memory of Keith Jarrett. We were invited to stay backstage and sit on the stage for his concert. There was also Bill Evans, the pianist my mother knew well. Keith Jarrett stopped playing and asked us to leave. So I don’t like him… even if I like his music. » Bill Evans, one of the seismic names brought together in 1958 by Miles Davis to form a legendary ensemble: John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb.

Candy Dulfer is revealed internationally thanks to a title from the soundtrack of the Dutch film “De Kassière” released in 1989, “Lily Was Here” composed by Dave Stewart. She released immediately after her first solo album, the suggestive “Saxuality”. A dozen opuses followed. But live performance remains his hobby. And it was by working alongside Prince and Maceo Parker that she acquired a disturbing stage ease. The years pass and the musician’s talent takes on the appearance of a general artist: jazz, smooth jazz, funk, pop… and soon tagnaouite. With this mad love that she expresses without restraint to her instrument, the classy saxophone.
