The Duke of Sussex began his visit on Tuesday by meeting young people and chatting around a campfire in the evening. He was scheduled to hold a private event on Wednesday.

Harry, who turned 40 last month, is also due to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, on the four-day trip to southern Africa, his first to the region in five years. His wife, Meghan Markle, and his children, Archie and Lilibet, did not accompany him.

Harry co-founded the charity Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, initially to help young people affected by HIV/AIDS. The organization now supports children and young people facing various health, inequality and climate-related challenges in Lesotho and Botswana.

Sentebale means “forget me not” in the Sesotho language, and the princes created it in memory of their two deceased mothers.

“We are building a force of young advocates and when they have the opportunity to use their voice, the power of their impact will be immense,” Harry told young people and others connected to his charity gathered around from the campfire. “You may not always realize how important your influence is, but if it changes just one person’s life, it’s worth it.”

The evening took place at a Sentebale-funded children’s center in the historic village of Thaba Bosiu, which was once the capital of Lesotho.

Prince Seeiso, 58, described Harry as his younger brother and reminded everyone that Harry had an African title that Seeiso had previously awarded him. He added that Harry was also known as “the warrior” in Lesotho.

Harry, who was dressed casually in a puffer jacket and dark pants, smiled at the compliment.

The British prince also paid a courtesy visit to Lesotho Prime Minister Sam Matekane, who said “Lesotho will always be a second home to Prince Harry, and we will be forever grateful for his dedication.”

Lesotho celebrates its Independence Day on Friday and this year also celebrates 200 years since the founding of the country. Harry connected with Lesotho, a country of 2.3 million people surrounded entirely by South Africa, when he visited there after dropping out of school and working with orphaned children.
