The stated objective is to “create an open-air museum“. With these words, Francois Bouchartthe mayor of Roissy-en-Brie (Seine et Marne), summarizes the entire ambition of the urban art festival which will be launched on May 3, 2024.

Building on its first street art exhibition organized last year, the municipality decided to do it again, but not in the same proportions. It is the least we can say. While the 2023 exhibition was held over two weeks, the 2024 festival will run over… six monthsjust that !

Inauguration of the basketball court

Baptized Urban interludes, this festival will be “more than just an artistic event,” promises the first Roissean councilor. The festival will embody our commitment to promoting cultural diversity and revitalizing our urban spaces by transforming them into places of meeting and creativity.”

Witness to this “metamorphosis of spaces”, the 3×3 basketball courtnear the gymnasium Charles the Bald, will also be the center of the opening of this unique festival in the surrounding area. Revamped a few weeks ago by the artist Nasty, known among other things for his work in the Paris metro, this land will be inaugurated with great fanfare on May 3 at 5 p.m. “This event will mark the start of a series of artistic and cultural activities which will enliven the city throughout the summer period,” says the municipality. For this launch, street basketball activities, food trucks and a musical atmosphere will be there to experience a moment that is at once popular, sporting and artistic.

Artists like Da Cruz, Kaldea, Mathieu-1976, Beerens or even Temponok will take over in the days that follow, with the ambition of giving color to the city. They will target, among others, the SNCF bridge or even an EDF transformer in particular. A place will also be reserved for local artists. So, Medhi Sabeura graffiti artist from Roissy, will also have the opportunity to express himself at the Lamartine school on May 22.

An exhibition to conclude

After the summer period, a final highlight will take place. “We are going to organize a major exhibition at the Grande halle,” confirms François Bouchart.

From October 4 to 19, the work of around thirty nationally and even internationally renowned artists will be exhibited. “We are proud to offer Roisséans and visitors a unique artistic experience that will enrich our city and strengthen ties within our city,” concludes the mayor. For six months, Roissy-en-Brie will be a gallery open air.
