ATTACK – A puma jumped on a child playing near his family in a park in California (United States) this Sunday, slightly injuring the little boy before being shot dead because it was deemed dangerous.

A five-year-old boy was flown to hospital after being attacked by a mountain lion on Sunday afternoon while picnicking with his family at Malibu Creek Park in California. He suffered several bites and scratches that required medical attention, but the victim was able to return home the next day, reports Los Angeles Times.

The wild animal killed in a tree

The California Department of Wildlife said the animal was later spotted by one of its officers. Considered a “danger to public safety,” the mountain lion was shot and killed. It was in the tree where it had taken refuge after attacking the child. The feline had jumped on its victim while the child was playing with other children near the family’s picnic table.

He had grabbed the little boy but then let go of him before fleeing when he was charged by “one or more adults,” the Californian department said. BFM TV reports that in 20 years, only one fatal puma attack has occurred in the United States. It happened last March, when a 21-year-old man hiking with his brother in northern California was killed by one of these animals(…) - 20minutes
