A young man of only 18 years old. German police shot dead on Thursday, September 5, the alleged suspect behind the attempted attack on the Israeli consulate general in Munich, which occurred on the anniversary of the hostage-taking of athletes from that country during the 1972 Olympic Games in the Bavarian capital.

While local authorities believe it is still too early to comment on the motivations of the young man, presented by the police as an 18-year-old of Austrian nationality, the German press is already suggesting the outlines of this presumed suspect.

Islamist, known to the police

According to the German weekly “Der Spiegel” and the Austrian newspaper “Der Standard”, the neutralized shooter is an Islamist known to the police. Last year, investigators were following the trail of an individual living near Salzburg, Austria, because he was spreading propaganda for the Islamic State (IS). But the investigation was later abandoned, they write. Der Spiegel” adds that he drove from Austria to Munich, where he was killed by police.
