Tesla, which reportedly was planning to launch the technology in China this year, lags domestic rivals in offering driver-assistance features in the highly competitive market. Beijing hasn’t approved Tesla’s latest technology due to concerns around accidents involving the EV maker’s software in the U.S. and data security, The Wall Street Journal reported last month.
Tesla Preparing for October ‘Robotaxi’ Event
The updated plan to launch autonomous driving in China and Europe comes a month before Tesla is due to hold its “robotaxi” event. The robotaxi was originally set to be unveiled on Aug. 8 but delayed to Oct. 10 due to what Musk called an “important design change.”
Tesla didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Investopedia.
Tesla shares were up almost 7% an hour after the opening bell Thursday. They are down more than 5% this year.
