“Lilian was a star, he will always shine for us”: a thousand people took part in a silent march in Grenoble on Sunday in tribute to the municipal employee shot dead a week ago by a man still on the run.
Organised by the victim’s family, the march set off shortly after noon from Boulevard Jean Pain, where the tragedy took place, a stone’s throw from Grenoble town hall. Before the procession set off, Jean-Marc Dejean, one of the victim’s brothers, thanked those present and hoped that the march would take place “in goodwill and tranquility”.
“I can’t get used to it”
Recalling that Lilian worked as a cleaning agent, he invited participants to equip themselves with the tongs, gloves and garbage bags distributed by his colleagues to “pick up one or two pieces of trash on the road” during the march. “I think that where he is, (Lilian Dejean) would also have liked us to make his city clean, literally and figuratively,” he added.
