Fever, cough, fatigue? Maybe it’s the flu that’s rearing its ugly head. Cases of acute respiratory infections, which include flu, Covid but also bronchiolitis, have increased sharply since December 23, 2024. According to data compiled by the Sentinelles network (subsequently reported to Public Health France), 506 cases per 100 000 inhabitants were recorded in Pays de la Loire during the week of December 23 to 29, 2024.
Sarthe is particularly affected with more than 800 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The department is also affected by cases of acute diarrhea and chicken pox, which are more numerous than usual.

An ongoing vaccination campaign
“It really follows national trends, observes Caroline Guerrisi, epidemiologist for the Sentinelles network. Viral circulation is mainly linked to the flu. » The only difference with previous years: the viruses reappeared later. “We had very early episodes as early as November or late October last year. But January is really the peak period for these infections,” notes Stéphan Domingo, territorial director of the Regional Health Agency in Sarthe.
The organization also reminds us of some advice: wash your hands frequently, use single-use tissues, greet each other without shaking hands or kissing and wear a mask when you are sick. A vaccination campaign is also underway until January 31, 2025 for people at risk.
