On Saturday, the Montchanin multidisciplinary health center (MSP) organized a morning vaccination against whooping cough. A respiratory bacterial disease on the rise and very contagious. This disease is transmitted through the air through contact with an infected person, particularly through coughing, and spreads mainly within families or communities. It can lead to serious complications, including pulmonary and neurological complications, particularly in infants under six months of age who are not yet protected by vaccination.

Whooping cough and other reminders

“The MSP communicated on social networks, public displays thanks to the support of the town hall and distributed flyers. Around fifteen people registered, STD patients and outsiders. We can also do other vaccine boosters,” says Doctor Carine Travers.

A vaccine for each pregnancy

The whooping cough vaccination strategy is based on compulsory vaccination since 2018 of children aged 2 months and over, followed by booster vaccinations. For adolescents, vaccination is recommended between 11 and 13 years old, and adults at 25, 45, 65. After 65 years, the vaccine should be given every 10 years. It is also strongly recommended that pregnant women be vaccinated at each pregnancy, prioritizing the period from the 5th to the 8th month of pregnancy, in order to protect the infant until six months of age. A publication on the Ministry of Health website dating from June reports 17 deaths since the start of 2024, 12 of which concern infants aged 1 to 2 months, who were not yet protected by vaccination.

Too bad we don’t talk about it at school

Amine, 11 years old, and Abdelghrani Benyoussef,

“It was our family doctor, Doctor Travers, who warned us about this morning of vaccination. With my wife and my four other children, we are up to date. Only Amine needed his reminder for his 11th birthday. It’s very important to get vaccinated, my son didn’t hear about it at school, it’s a shame. We live in a country where it is easy to get vaccinated, we have everything within reach. I know that some populations dream of it. »
