The Kindle is a small monochrome tablet, at least for the version presented here, designed exclusively for reading books. It’s a light, compact device, with “only” 16 GB of memory, enough to hold several hundred books or even a few mangas. The Library of Alexandria in your pocket
The Amazon Kindle is an electronic e-reader measuring 157.8 x 108.6 x 8.0 mm and weighing only 158 grams, with a 6″ touch screen. Basically, the dimensions of a small smartphone, even lighter, for a very specific use: reading. But be careful not to just read like you would on a tablet or phone.
There, Amazon tries to reproduce the rendering of a paper page as faithfully as possible, with eye protection technologies to extend reading sessions. Even the touch of the screen is a bit grainy. The Kindle offered here has 16 GB of memory, when you know that a classic book weighs a few kilobytes, you understand that it is possible to store thousands of them.
Manga weighs more, since there are images. So you can store a little less. And anyway, the 6″ screen is a bit small for good visibility. On the other hand, it remains great for novels, magazines, newspapers, etc.
Autonomy beyond belief
The Kindle consumes very little battery. It simply displays the pages of your books. You can adjust the backlight on the front, to read in direct sunlight or in the evening in bed, always with the same comfort. So pushing the brightness all the way up can make the battery go down a little faster. But on average, with one charge you can use it for six weeks.
To get new eBooks, you can connect the Kindle to WiFi to access the Amazon Store and directly purchase your books online. Or go through the Amazon website or app and buy the Kindle version of the book you’re interested in.
In the promotion, there is also the Kindle Paperwhite version. It has even greater autonomy (12 weeks), adjustable warm lighting, a flat front and IPX8 resistance which allows you to read in the bath or swimming pool without risk.
