Kongo-Central: hospitalization difficulties at the Sekebanza General Hospital

The Sekebanza General Hospital, Bas-Fleuve district (Kongo-Central) is experiencing difficulties in hospitalizing patients due to lack of buildings, said Tuesday, June 25, the head doctor of this medical structure.

Dominique Thomo Sassi said that patients are housed in total promiscuity:

« It’s a general hospital, we should be talking about the wards, but due to a lack of buildings, here we’re talking about the services. In principle, patients should be separated according to their illnesses into different wards, such as surgery, internal medicine and others. ».

With this reality, he stressed, patients are confined, even those suffering from infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis patients.

He therefore called on the Government to consider building buildings in this hospital to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

« The Congolese state, responsible number 1 for this hospital, must come to our aid. There is only one building that has been constructed by the state since 1945. And it is in serious disrepair. Other buildings were built thanks to the efforts of the hospital and the financial support of partners including BTC and doctors without borders. », continued Dominique Thomo Sassi.

The Sekebanza general hospital only has 5 buildings left and is missing some medical kits.

« We have ultrasound and radiology devices, but they are old devices, while technology is developing day by day. “, he concluded.
