Diabetes screening is a priority area of the Réunion nutrition and fight against diabetes program. To enable those in the field to raise awareness and support as many people as possible in screening for the disease, the ARS and Health Insurance are deploying the “Screen out diabetes” operation.
These are practical tools adapted to the population of Reunion, made available to stakeholders and prevention structures to help identify diabetes, including the “FindRiskpéï” test.
In Reunion, type 2 diabetes leads to increasingly frequent chronic complications: 3,300 diabetic patients were treated for renal, podiatric and/or cardiovascular complications and 250 had a lower limb amputated.
To understand this situation which considerably affects the quality of life of patients, the ARS, Health Insurance and the ORS carried out a study on the care pathway for diabetic amputees.
According to the ARS, the latest published results will allow partners to propose multidisciplinary actions to reduce the risks of complications among patients and improve their care and support pathway.
Faced with this scourge, health partners and stakeholders are mobilizing this Thursday, November 14 and throughout the month by offering numerous events and awareness-raising actions throughout the island.
