Discover the Paris Sentinel Pollinarium, a unique place to live better with pollen allergies

In the heart of the Paris floral park is a garden dedicated to observing the main allergenic plants of the region. A look back at this initiative, one year after its inauguration.

In France, allergies constitute a significant public health problem, affecting nearly 30% of the population. Spring, with its abundant flowering, marks the start of the pollen season, an ordeal for many. Paris, although far from fields and wild flowers, does not escape allergy season. To prevent these waves of allergenic pollen, a garden was inaugurated in 2023. This garden is the sentinel pollenarium of Paris.

The sentinel pollinarium, to help those allergic to pollen

The Sentinel Pollinarium is a scientific and environmental facility dedicated to pollen monitoring. Designed to inform and help people suffering from allergies, it is a garden where the main species of allergenic plants in the surrounding area are grown. Birch, ash, willow, grasses: around twenty species are represented in the pollinarium.

The project: anticipate the arrival of pollen grains from the first emissions of different plants. Every day, gardeners observe the different species to identify the beginning and end of pollination periods. The data collected is then analyzed by botanists and allergists. In the event of the start of confirmed pollen emission, an alert is then sent via a newsletter in order to warn allergy sufferers about periods of high risk, thus allowing them to prepare their treatment.
