Avian influenza and household chicken coops – Quéménéven Kemeneven

In recent weeks, Finistère has experienced three outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza, a fatal disease for birds. These outbreaks originate from wild birds, and this threat is lasting over time.

Recently, a new outbreak of avian influenza broke out in the town of Taulé, the origin of which is probable contamination by gulls and led to the slaughter of 30,000 laying hens, showing that the risk of contamination persists. .

The prefect of Finistère took restrictive measures on September 16, 2024 in municipalities less than 20 km from the coast (including Quéménéven), in particular:

  • In private chicken coops, poultry must be sheltered (animals to be locked up, or the range protected by nets),
  • Prohibition on organizing gatherings of poultry and allowing birds originating from this area to participate in gatherings organized in the rest of the territory,
  • Limited authorizations for the transport and introduction into the natural environment of game birds and the use of decoys for hunting.
  • If wild bird corpses are discovered, avoid all contact, including feathers and droppings.so as not to contaminate backyard birds.
