In France, around 17 million people suffer from high blood pressure (HTA). This cardiovascular disease (which corresponds to abnormally high pressure in the blood vessels) is characterized by a systolic pressure greater than 140 mmHg and a diastolic pressure greater than 90 mmHg.
“A variation in active substance content in certain capsules”
To regulate the blood pressure of hypertensive patients, in addition to lifestyle measures (a less salty diet and regular physical activity), antihypertensive medications can be prescribed. For example, the Trandolaprila medicine that belongs to the family of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Precisely: in a press release published on October 8, 2024, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) announced batch recalls of Trandolapril 2 mg and 4 mg. In question: “a variation in the active substance content in certain capsules (…) which could lead to a risk of underdosing or overdosing in patients“. Please note: “no pharmacovigilance case related to this quality defect has been reported to the laboratory to date” the health authorities reassure us. Furthermore, Trandolapril 0.5 mg capsules are not affected by this wave of recalls.
