Soon, Zambia will host the largest cholera vaccine factory.

To do this, the country is banking on strategic partnerships with leading investors.

In this sense, a major agreement was signed with the Chinese public company Jijia International Medical Technology Corporation for the construction of this cholera vaccine factory.

This project aims to respond to the serious epidemic which has affected the country since October 2023 and which has already caused the death of more than 700 people out of the 20,000 infected.

Faced with this crisis, the Zambian authorities launched an ambitious vaccination campaign, targeting 1.5 million people in order to slow the spread of the disease.

The construction of this new factory, the result of a partnership between the Zambian Industrial Development Agency (IDC) and Jijia International Medical Technology Corporation, marks an important step in efforts to combat recurring epidemics in the country.

« The factory is a key step on the path to eradicating cholera, which reduces productivity. We are also sending a signal that Zambia, Africa and the world are capable of working together. Zambia must be seen as a center, as a place of production for a larger market. And if you look at the population of Africa, it’s growing very quickly“delivered Hakainde Hichilema, the Zambian president.

Vaccine factory estimated at $37 million

The project, the first phase of which is estimated at $37 million, will enable Zambia to become more self-sufficient in the production of vaccines essential to containing diseases like cholera.

It is also a step towards improving health infrastructure, as the country aspires to play a central role in regional vaccine production.

This initiative is part of the Zambian government’s desire to modernize its health system by collaborating with quality international partners.
