As part of Pink October, the CHRU focuses on the links between thrombosis and cancer.

Thrombosis and cancer (poster)

Venous thrombosis affects one in 500 people in , but increases with age, affecting up to one in 100 people after the age of 70 and especially one in 10 people with cancer; the link between cancer and venous thrombosis is therefore very important.

Three meetings

On this occasion, the vascular medicine team from the Nancy CHRU will be present to pass on prevention messages and take stock of the various thromboses.

  • Saturday October 12 at the SLUC match against Chalon sur Saône,
  • Sunday October 13 at the Pink October walk/run organized by the NAM and the City of Nancy.
  • Monday October 14 from 5 p.m., at the Museum of Fine Arts, a general public conference hosted by health professionals will provide an update on this subject.

    What is a thrombosis?

Thrombosis is the formation of a clot in a blood vessel. There are several types: venous thrombosis (pulmonary embolism and phlebitis of the legs) and in the arteries (myocardial infarction and stroke).
One in four people in the world suffers from the consequences of thrombosis; it is the leading cause of global mortality. In France, there are 400 deaths per day: it is the leading cause of death among women.

Thrombosis can, however, be prevented if everyone becomes aware and improves their lifestyle by stopping smoking, practicing physical activity regularly, eating a balanced diet and consulting their doctor regularly to screen for risk factors. For example, stopping smoking at age 30 allows you to gain 10 years of life, and at age 50, 6 years of life!
