(VNA) – The joint stock company Vietnam Vaccine (VNVC) and the French pharmaceutical group Sanofi concluded on October 8 in Paris a memorandum of understanding aimed at guiding cooperation in the production of certain Sanofi vaccines in the VNVC factory in Vietnam.

Pursuant to the agreement, Sanofi is committed to sharing its knowledge and in-depth biotechnology expertise with VNVC, enabling the phased production of essential vaccines at the VNVC facility. This collaboration aims not only to improve access to vaccines for the Vietnamese population, but also to ensure a stable supply and reduce costs.

Former Minister of Health of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, highlighted the importance of this agreement which marks the first time that a Vietnamese private company has entered into a partnership for the transfer of cutting-edge technologies in vaccine production.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to France, Dinh Toan Thang, described this collaboration between VNVC and Sanofi as a symbol of good traditional Franco-Vietnamese cooperation in the fields of health and pharmacy.

Burak Pekmezci, Country Director of Sanofi Vietnam, highlighted Sanofi’s position as a global leader in vaccine production, with more than half a billion annual users of its products globally. In Vietnam, Sanofi has provided more than seven million doses of high-quality vaccines in 2023.

Sanofi, which is a large group experienced in vaccine production, wishes to share its knowledge and contribute to the development of the health sector and improve public health in Vietnam, he stressed.

Ngo Chi Dung, Chairman and CEO of VNVC, announced that the company will build a factory in Long An for the production of vaccines and biological products, using advanced technologies compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). of the EU. The aim is to collaborate with Sanofi and other pharmaceutical companies to produce essential vaccines and biological drugs, thereby strengthening Vietnam’s autonomy in this field.

The integration of VNVC into the vaccine production chain represents a crucial strategy to ensure self-sustaining production, reduce shortages and strengthen Vietnam’s capacity to prevent epidemics.

VNVC plans to negotiate progressive participation in the production and technology transfer for certain Sanofi vaccines, in accordance with the signed agreement.

Sanofi, a world-renowned French pharmaceutical group, is recognized for the production and distribution of high-quality medicines and vaccines internationally, including in Vietnam. During its 71 years of presence in Vietnam, Sanofi has contributed significantly to scientific research, the supply of medicines and vaccines, as well as training and sharing expertise with medical personnel and the community in various domains. -VNA
