The walk against cancer, organized by the Cardié de Foix health center and its partners, brought together 320 people this Sunday, October 6. Departing from Bouychères park, two courses, 5 and 10 km, were available to participants. “It is part of our missions. Screening remains a sentinel for early treatment,” explains Jérôme Vézinet, doctor at Cardié.

Andrée*, whose mother was affected by breast cancer (who passed away at the age of 94) and treated at University Hospital, in the cancer ward, confides: “She had undergone the procedure followed by chemotherapy. Psychologically, she coped well with the illness despite the inevitable suffering.”

Rose* suffers from the disease: “I discovered the symptom by self-palpation. I will have an intervention in March 2025. In the meantime, I am doing six months of chemotherapy at CHIVA, which has excellent treatment. responsibility of the patient. With the fear, it is very hard I am only 39 years old and I am on sick leave, collective screening does not begin until the age of 50.

Josette* and Bérénice*, mother and daughter, are going through this painful stage together. It’s an atrocious and rare fate, they wanted to share it. “My cancer was detected in 2022. I felt an itch which put me on alert. Operated four times, I am in remission, today I am doing well,” confides the mother. Bérénice shares a common distress: “Following my mother’s cancer, I had a mammogram at 48 years old. The disease was already well advanced. Having undergone two operations at CHIVA, I have no treatment to follow , I returned to my work and it’s better.”

Breast cancer can also affect men. Screening remains the only way to stop the disease by acting quickly.

The sub-prefect, chief of staff of the prefect, Delphine Lemaire, came to provide her support by participating, with her daughters and her husband, in this event of national scope.
