A vaccination campaign planned for next week

For four days, from May 14 to 17, a new polio vaccination campaign will be organized throughout the country. This is an initiative of the Ministry of Public Health aimed at eradicating this serious disease. For this fight, children under the age of fifteen are targeted. The ministry aims to administer polio vaccines to 12,851,149 children under the age of fifteen islandwide. Since the State has organized regular campaigns to combat this disease, good results have been noted, as “no new cases of poliomyelitis have been recorded in the last six months,” according to Unicef in a press release.

Poliomyelitis is a serious contagious disease that can cause life-threatening paralysis. This is why it is essential to get vaccinated. The polio vaccine, also known as OPV, is recommended in the first months of a child’s life. It offers effective and long-lasting protection against this virus. Additionally, this vaccine can be administered repeatedly as it provides complete protection. As a reminder, this disease can affect all kinds of people, particularly children under the age of five and especially those who have not completed their vaccination on time.

Therefore, it is imperative to adhere to the recommended vaccination schedule to ensure adequate protection against this potentially devastating disease.
