A journalist was violently attacked by a security member of the DR Congo national team on Wednesday October 9.

How could the situation have degenerated like this? During training for the DR Congo national team, a journalist was hit and then threatened with a gun by a member of the selection’s security, according to Sport News Africa. The reported facts occurred on the eve of the match scheduled for Thursday, October 10 (6 p.m.) against Tanzania as part of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“I am so shocked by this scene and I hope that CAF will find a solution,” denounces the brutalized journalist, Gede Luiz Kupa, who intends to file a complaint. The latter specifies that he “was taking advantage of the 15 minutes reserved for the media” when the incident occurred.

“Does the (Congolese federation) authorize the security of the national team to point a gun at journalists in the middle of the stadium?” asked a Congolese radio presenter, Jonathan Masiala, on social networks.

Boycott of Kinshasa journalists

An indignation shared by his colleagues. “Feeling unsafe working in a militarized environment,” the Kinshasa Sports Journalists Association (AJSC) announced a boycott of the post-match press conference. The association also calls for “a public apology from the author of this despicable act as well as sanctions”.

But the end of the press release shows that the tension is at its peak: “If the (federation) turns a deaf ear to its demands, it reserves the right to unleash a wind that it will not be able to control.”
