You are not alone. This is essentially the message from Lola Devillers in her self-published book The shadow of my thoughts. In this collection of poems, the 17-year-old Rédingeoise addresses all those who, like her, are going through the difficulties of adolescence. She discusses different subjects such as complicated romantic breakups, sexual assault, harassment, school phobia, discomfort and anxiety.
The mental health of youth is at the heart of his verses, short and concise, well written, like a slam declaimed to an audience impacted by great psychological distress. “I would like those who read this book to understand that you should never give up, even when all seems lost. I know how certain passages in our lives can seem insurmountable,” she writes in her collection.
Support from loved ones
Resilience appears luminously at the end of the work, when the author evokes her new love, friendship, self-esteem, rebirth after trials, her reconstruction in progress.
Lola Devillers is now out of school and is pursuing a professional baccalaureate in support, care and personal services remotely.
After two suicide attempts and several hospitalizations, the young girl found part of her therapy in writing. She was able to bounce back, is being monitored medically, supported and encouraged by her family and friends.
Continue writing
“One day, I posted a poem on the networks and those close to me told me that I had a beautiful pen and that I should publish it. In two months, I completed my collection. I gave it to my mother in September for her birthday. I think I’ll continue writing, it feels good. By sharing my own experience, I hope to encourage others to speak up, seek help, and fight for their healing. »
After years of heavy lifting, this work is an open door to a better future. Lola Devillers aims to work with children and continue her studies with training in childcare. Taking care of others while continuing to take care of your beautiful self.
