Live debate: Juan Ciscomani vs. Kirsten Engel

Congressman Juan Ciscomani and his political challenger, Kirsten Engel, will debate tonight.

Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, the debate will be televised and livestreamed here.

The candidates for this U.S. House of Representatives position are expected to discuss their positions on issues including immigration policy and enforcement, abortion, and federal spending.

The debate is hosted by the Arizona Media Association and the Citizens Clean Elections Commission. Mi Familia Vota is hosting a debate watch party starting at 6:30 p.m. today in Tucson. Register for location.

Ballots go in the mail and early voting begins Wednesday, Oct. 9.

This election is a rematch from 2022, when Ciscomani won with 50.7% of the votes.

Congressional District 6 is a battleground district sometimes described as a toss up. As of July, the voter registration is 36% Republican, 32% independent, 30% Democrat, and 2% other parties.

District 6 is in the southeast corner of Arizona and includes parts of Pima, Pinal, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties. Check which district you live in.

Meet the candidates

Ciscomani is a first-term, moderate Republican who holds an important position on the House Appropriations Committee, which is involved in federal budget and spending decisions. He was previously a senior advisor to Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.

Engel, a Democrat, previously served in the state Senate and state House and has a career in law and teaching law.

Also running is Green Party candidate Athena Eastwood, who advanced from the primary election by winning 26 write-in votes. The Green Party candidates were not included in the debate series. Additionally, independent Luis Pozzolo is running as a write-in candidate.
