Google’s brand new Pixel 9 is already cheaper thanks to Amazon Prime Day

Base model of Google’s latest batch of high-end smartphones, the Pixel 9 saw its price drop during Prime Day, barely two months after its release. Offered at a starting price of 999 euros, Google’s Pixel 9 (256 GB) is currently listed at 899 euros on Amazon.

It is with a little advance that Google has lifted the veil on its new phones. The American giant apparently couldn’t wait until the fall and preferred to unveil it during an event this summer. The race for AI features – which the Pixel 9 series is packed with – in question? No doubt. Features that benefit the Pixel 9, the base model of this new batch which interests us particularly today and not only for its pretty technical sheet, but also for its price reduced by 100 euros on Amazon for Prime Day .

The strong points of Google’s Pixel 9

Excellence in photography

Although it was somewhat rushed to unveil its new smartphones, Google offered several new features and notable improvements on its Pixel 9 series, particularly in terms of photography. It must be said that if there is one aspect that the American giant has mastered, it is the photo part. And the Pixel 9 is no exception, even if it has the same main sensor as its predecessor, the Pixel 8, which might disappoint some. However, with its 50 megapixel wide-angle sensor (f/1.68) and its ultra-wide-angle (f/1.7) muscular for the occasion (going from 12 to 48 Mpx), the base model of Google’s latest batch of smartphones manages to immortalize moments of very high quality.

Although a little dated, the main sensor still does the job perfectly today. It’s hard to fault him. As for the ultra-wide-angle, the Pixel 9 has the merit of maintaining good colorimetric consistency with the main camera. Furthermore, it does not fall into the trap of excessive distortion, although there is a significant loss in precision.

But, to the hardware part is added all the know-how of Google algorithms. Once the photo has been captured, the American giant’s photo software takes over to offer ever more beautiful results – even if it sometimes means being a little heavy handed. In summary, the Pixel 9 presents itself, as one might expect, as a very good photo smartphone with good dynamics in scenes and balanced colors overall.

Many aspects that could be improved

But the Pixel 9 above all marks a notable evolution in terms of design. Google has refined its copy and offered a smartphone with a much more premium look. Its screen, with more than sufficient brightness and completely correct color calibration, reinforces this impression. It’s a shame that we don’t find this high-end aspect at all levels of the phone.

Equipped with Google’s latest in-house processor, the Tensor G4, the Pixel 9 is somewhat lagging behind the competition, especially given its launch price. Rest assured though, the phone performs well in everyday tasks, but struggles in gaming and often overheats when asked a lot.

When it comes to autonomy, the real Achilles heel of Google smartphones, the Pixel 9 is unfortunately no exception. It is indeed a bit limited, so those most addicted to smartphones will have to limit their use to keep their phone alive all day. Added to this is unfortunately charging which still remains too slow today, especially at a time when other manufacturers – mainly Chinese – are constantly reducing the charging time of their phones.
