Today begins “Pink October”, a breast cancer awareness campaign organized by the Pink Ribbon associationof which Claudia Tagbo is one of the three godmothers with Évelyne Dhéliat and Alice Detollenaere.

Co-founded by the Estée Lauder and Marie-Claire groups in 2003, the association is chaired by Sandrine Planchon and Franck Besnard. Its goal: to inform the general public, in particular by organizing each year the Pink October campaign, a month dedicated to prevention, information and fundraising to fight against breast cancer.

While research has made great progress, breast cancer continues to affect more than 61,000 people each year in , and is the most common cancer among women. Today, it represents the leading cause of death from cancer among them, but detected at an early stage, there is a 99% chance of survival at 5 years. Remember that breast cancer also exists in men, it represents less than 1% of cases.

FIGURES ON THE ASSOCIATION:

· In 2023, 3.7 million euros were collected thanks to the call for donations from patrons, the general public and donations from local initiatives. A figure up significantly compared to 2022 (3,167,000 euros).

· In 21 years, the association has donated 10 million euros to breast cancer research

· Grants of up to €350,000 per project

· 108 research or associative projects were supported.

BREAST CANCER FIGURES:

· 1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer

· 61,200 new cases in 2023

· 12,000 deaths in 2023

· Early treatment of small breast cancer with favorable biological characteristics provides a 99% chance of cure 5 years after diagnosis

The Ruban Rose association launched yesterday, Monday September 30, on the prestigious Place Vendôme, its new awareness campaign for the fight against breast cancer, thus marking the start of the month Pink October 2024.

This exceptional event was choreographed by Mehdi Kerkouche and set to music by singer Amir. It highlights the importance of prevention, early detection, support for research into breast cancer and support for women affected by this disease.

The objective of this initiative is to raise awareness among as many people as possible of the importance of early detection, while encouraging donations for research and patient support.

This annual launch in an emblematic location allows women who face this disease and those who support them to convey strong and inclusive messages, essential in the fight against breast cancer.

Franck Besnard and Sandrine Planchon, respectively president and director of the association, inaugurated this new edition by unveiling the campaign, embodied by Camille Lacourt. His wife Alice Detollenaere, one of the association’s sponsors, was confronted with breast cancer.

+ Anne-Vincent Salomonanatomic pathologist at the Curie Institute in and President of the Scientific Committee of the Ruban Rose association. She is also Director of the Women’s Cancer Institute, Head of the Pathology Department of the Institut Curie and of the Diagnostic and Theranostic Medicine Center of the Institut Curie. She is also a professor at the University of Paris Sciences et Lettres.
