Famous in the field of comedy, French director and screenwriter Didier Kaminka died on September 25 at the age of 81. He was particularly known for his work on the screenplays of “Banzaï”, “Sous-Doués” and “Ripoux”.
Famous for having directed the comedies Trop c’est trop and Promotion sofa, but also and above all for having written the screenplays for feature films such as Les Sous-doués, Banzaï, Les Ripoux and La Totale, the French filmmaker Didier Kaminka is died this Wednesday, September 25 at the age of 81.
An early career as an actor
Born in 1943 in Paris, Didier Kaminka began his career in cinema as an actor at the end of the 1960s. From the beginning of the 1970s, he began writing feature film scripts, notably that of the thriller Force 8, film by Pierre Sisser in which he will play one of the main roles.
After signing the film script Love each other…but not too much (in which he also plays and meets his future wife Nicole Jamet), he is approached by Pierre Richard, who offers him to write the script for his new comedy as director, Je sais rien, mais je dire tout.
A great screenwriter of the 80s
During the 1980s, notably marked by his collaboration with director Claude Zidi, Didier Kaminka became one of the essential names in the field of popular comedy.
We remember his work on films such as Les Sous-doués, Inspecteur la Bavure, Banzaï, Les Ripoux and La Totale!, a spy feature film directed by Thierry Lhermitte and Miou-Miou, the script of which will be readapted by James Cameron for True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Didier Kaminka is also distinguished as a director, and has directed films like Trop c’est trop, Tant qu’il y sera des femmes and Promotion couch.
He died on September 25, 2024 at the age of 81.
