Wayne Taylor has officially clarified the status of his racing team's partnerships following the conclusion of a two-year collaboration with Andretti Global. As Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) prepares for the 2025 season, Taylor emphasized that although the Andretti name is no longer part of the team's identity, the organization remains firmly rooted within the TWG Motorsports group. by Dan Towriss.
A mutually respectful separation
Reflecting on the collaboration with Andretti Global, Taylor was frank but positive. “We had a great time, to be honest. I enjoyed working with Michael and JF [Thormann] and these guys,” Taylor explained. “But they also had other projects going on. They had the Formula 1 program, the IndyCar program—so there wasn’t a huge integration.”
Taylor described the decision to part ways as practical rather than personal, citing the expanded commitments Andretti Global faces with its expanding portfolio, including a Cadillac-backed entry into Formula 1 planned for 2026. “Dan and his group took the decision to keep Wayne Taylor Racing separate, which obviously makes me happier,” he added, emphasizing the amicable nature of the separation.
The TWG connection
WTR's continued alignment with TWG Motorsports, led by Dan Towriss, ensures the team remains an integral part of a powerful motorsport network that includes investments in Spire Motorsports (NASCAR), Andretti Global and the upcoming Formula 1 project of Cadillac. TWG is under the TWG Global umbrella, led by Guggenheim Partners CEO Mark Walter, providing WTR with significant resources and opportunities.
Taylor expressed gratitude for the stability TWG provided. “It's really fantastic, to partner with them, and have them allow us to use our workshop,” he said, noting that staying at their facility in Brownsburg, Ind., avoids unnecessary complications. “Going from Honda to Cadillac, and then starting planning to go to another shop, it's just too much.”
-Why the separation took place
Taylor suggested that the divergence in goals between WTR and Andretti Global played a key role. While WTR is firmly focused on IMSA and Cadillac's LMDh program, Andretti's ambitions have expanded globally, including a high-profile push into Formula 1. Taylor noted: “The biggest The group’s focus is Cadillac’s LMDh program and Formula 1.”
The team will now take full advantage of its existing structure and focus on its transition back to Cadillac and General Motors after a stint with Honda/Acura.
Looking to the future
The Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing rebranded prepares for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a new focus and renewed stability. Taylor's enthusiasm for this new phase was evident. “It just made more sense to keep us where we are,” he concluded.
With a strong partnership with TWG Motorsports and support from Cadillac, WTR appears well positioned for its next chapter. Andretti's split might mark the end of a partnership, but it paves the way for a simplified and ambitious future under the Cadillac banner.
