After a chaotic schedule since the beginning of January, A Sunday in the countryside meets its viewers this January 26. For one of these first issues of the year, Frédéric Lopez welcomes war reporter Dorothée Olliéric, comedian Donel Jack'sman and singer Dany Brillant. The songwriter and performer spoke about his story in the comforting setting of the show launched in 2022 by the creator of Meet in unknown land. He notably recounted a mishap that occurred at the very beginning of his career, which ultimately opened other doors for him.

It was a bit by chance that Dany Brillant arrived in the world of music. In the first year of medicine, he knew that he was not in the sector he liked: “I feel that I don't really have the vocation” he explains to Frédéric Lopez. While he was playing the guitar in his maid's room, his neighbor, a saxophonist, suggested that he go play on the cafe terraces of Saint Germain. Then, the duo took over the metro once the summer season is over. It took him three years to admit to his parents that he was no longer studying medicine. but that he embraced the career of acrobat. While he has been spotted in the metro and is playing in a cabaret, Dany Brillant wants to achieve his initial goal. “My dream was never to be a singer” he admits, what thrills him is being an actor. He enrolls in the Florent course where Francis Huster, one of his idols, is a teacher. After a while, he offers to come see him sing, Finally, it was an assistant who went there, excited, and asked the actor to listen to it the next day.

Excited, Francis Huster asked him to sing in the first feature film that he was about to debut. As he only sang covers for which the rights were expensive, Dany Brillant suggested that Francis Huster write a song. The actor had given the first name of his mother, Suzette, to one of the main characters, the apprentice acrobat doesn't need much more. “I wrote the song in 5 minutes on a bench on Boulevard Sébastopol“. Conquered, his mentor assures him that he will sing 15 times in his film, but just before the premiere, he learns bad news from the mouth of the one he admired.Francis says: 'I couldn't keep Dany's scenes.' Everything cut during editing, I don't appear in the film” explains in front of the two other stunned guests of the show.

“Collapsed, I left the Florent course, upset, my dream was crumbling” he analyzes today. Dany Brillant then decides to add this song to the repertoire he sings at the cabaret. He took the opportunity to write other titles like Come to Saint Germain or It's just the girls. When someone from a record company was in the room one evening, he decided to sign him. In November 1991, Suzette comes out, it's a success!
