In Austria, it is the turn of the Linz tournament to host its 34th edition! In this round of 16, the Romanian Sorana Cirstea faces the Dutch Arantxa Rus for a place in the second round. Sorana Cirstea is back in this Austrian tournament after several months without playing. This is in fact only his 3rd match in this 2025 season but also his 3rd match since July 1, 2024, the date which concluded his previous season with a defeat in the first round of Wimbledon. Currently on a series of 8 consecutive defeats, the Romanian is trying her luck in this tournament and should want to at least manage to win a set.
-Arantxa Rus was stopped in the first round in Brisbane at the start of the year by world number 53 Yue Yuan, before winning her first qualifying match in Hobart against Stacey Fung (world number 254). But the Dutchwoman failed to reach the first round and then headed to the Australian Open where she was stopped in the first round by Serbian Olga Danilovic, 55th in the world. A lackluster start to the season from which she should want to shake off by achieving a good first round to once again string together victories.
