The 2025 Formula 1 season is about to open its doors, with a fantastic duo Charles Leclerc – Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. For Fred Vasseur, the Briton represented, by far, the best option, no offense to some.

A little more patience. On March 2, the 2025 Formula 1 season will kick off. With several major new features. At Red Bull, for example, four-time world champion Max Verstappen will now have Liam Lawson as a teammate.

At Ferrari, exit Carlos Sainz Jr, make way for veteran Lewis Hamilton. A transfer that caused quite a stir. And not necessarily unanimity in the paddock. On the side of the Scuderia, we nevertheless claim this choice loud and clear.

Fred Vasseur responds to Flavio Briatore

Recently, Flavio Briatore, one of the figures of , added fuel to the fire by allowing himself to begin Ferrari's decision to appoint Lewis Hamilton as Charles Leclerc's teammate: “In my opinion, it was not necessary to have destroyed the Sainz-Leclerc duo. If I had held a position of responsibility in the team, I would not have hired Hamilton.

An outing to which Frédéric Vasseur, the boss of the Scuderia, could not help but respond. For the Italian magazine Autosprint, the Frenchman notably said: “I have neither the pretension nor the arrogance to comment on the choices of other teams. (…) I think Hamilton is the best solution for us today, also considering the regulatory changes in 2026.

The choice Lewis Hamilton ardently defended

At the same time, Fred Vasseur showered his new recruit, Lewis Hamilton, with praise:

It's not just about speed, but pure performance. He will bring the experience of a seven-time world champion who has worked in top teams. It's very positive for a team to have someone who brings their experience, especially someone of Lewis' level. You have to have the right approach and benefit from your experience.(…) I know Lewis very well, his motivation, his way of working. I don't want to make comparisons with other drivers, but I am confident that it will fit perfectly into our system.

That way, things are clear. Second in the constructors' standings over the past season, Ferrari intends to take advantage of its dream team to get ahead of everyone and regain a title that it has missed for far too long.
