Very fast during his first season in Formula 3, Isack Hadjar showed what he is capable of at the wheel of a single-seater. Fourth in 2022, he left the title to his compatriot Victor Martins, driver in the junior sector from Alpine. The following season, the Parisian moved up a notch by signing with Hitech in F2. His first year was not enough to fight at the forefront, due to multiple problems, he managed to score a total of 51 points in fourteenth place in 2023. But this year, the young prodigy excelled in his category. Second in the championship, just behind the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, the coronation is within his reach.
As for the Red Bull clan in F1, the leaders of the Austrian brand have closely observed its performances. Very satisfied with his performances on the track, he could well take the leap and realize his dream: becoming a regular driver in Formula 1. With the questions surrounding Sergio Perez's seat, even if it seems that the Mexican is still alongside Max Verstappen in 2025, only one steering wheel remains available at Racing Bulls. Next December, the red bull brand will carry out tests in Abu Dhabi, in order to judge the speed of their drivers between: Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar. A formalization should take place at the end of this 2024 campaign.
The goal: Formula 1
In an interview with our colleagues at Motorsport.com, the Frenchman spoke about his ambitions. The current driver Campos has judged his chances of moving up to F1, it does not seem impossible for him.
“I would say my chances are there, at least. Obviously, this is not up to me. There's a lot going on at Racing Bulls and Red Bull, anything can happen. And obviously, I'm next on the list. It's just a fact. I don't know what decisions they're going to make, but anyway, I'm here and I'm trying to be ready for next year. Yes, they are looking for a fast driver, and he has proven that he is. [En parlant de Franco Colapinto]. So, yes, obviously, I've been part of a program for three years, I'm second in F2, I'm the team's reserve, so… that's how it is. This shows that our generation is good. Exactly [il faut faire confiance aux jeunes]because for a while we thought that experience was the most important thing, and that you couldn't get in a car and beat the guy who has ten years of experience in F1, but actually you can. If you're quick. So they did a good job for us, showing what the F2 grid can produce in F1, and I think what Franco and Ollie have done is great.”
“There is a lack of experience and a complete absence of experience in an F1 car. I think if I had to get into an F1 car straight away it would be a lot more difficult than for Ollie or Liam. Like I said, I think I can count the number of laps I've done in an F1 car. But still, when you talk about simulator, I think it's the best tool. It's so impressive, other than the g-force you can't really feel, and that's the main difference. The model and its proximity to reality are quite surprising. Red Bull has a very good simulator and the more time you spend on it, the easier it becomes to adapt to reality. I wouldn't be satisfied, obviously, because you want to drive. But if that’s the right thing to do, then I’ll do it and think about the future.”
