Formula 1 | Lawson: Playing British anthem for McLaren is 'bullshit'

RB team driver Liam Lawson has spoken out about something that irritates him in Formula 1.

The New Zealander criticized the British anthem being played on the podium when McLaren wins a race, saying it is “bullshit”.

Lawson has a history of making waves since his return to F1 which took place during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. There have been feuds with Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez, and now Lawson has chosen to take on McLaren.

Lawson argued that McLaren should play the New Zealand national anthem in honor of its founder, Bruce McLaren.

“Red Bull plays the Austrian national anthem and the team is based in the UK. McLaren is based in the UK, but it's a New Zealand team.”

“It's complete nonsense, to be honest. It makes no sense, it's bullshit.”

“It's a New Zealand team, the name is still McLaren. I have no idea why they put on a British anthem.”

“Honestly, especially if you're from New Zealand, it's an affront because Bruce McLaren is an absolute legend.”

There is no doubt that Bruce McLaren is a racing legend with Grand Prix victories, Can-Am titles and success at the 24 Hours of .

However, since its creation in 1963, McLaren has been based in the United Kingdom and races under a British license, granted by the FIA since the beginning of its history. And therefore chosen by Bruce McLaren himself.
