“I was scared after the fall; I knew the possibility of rain was high” – Jorge Martín

The Friday of the Australian MotoGP GP was a moment of fear for Jorge Martín. The championship leader fell in the opening minutes, as rain threatened to return at Phillip Island, and had to wait in the pits for some time before returning to the track – finding himself, shortly afterwards, faced with a red flag . After the restart he managed to be fast and finished fourth.

The Spaniard from Prima Pramac described his emotions: ‘I was a little scared. Even before going on the trail, I knew that the possibility of rain was high – I saw that the storm was coming. So when I fell, I felt irritated. Then my team did a fantastic job; I couldn’t take the second bike, so I had to stay with the same bike, they fixed it, and I went out on the track. And then there was the red flag’.

After overcoming his fall, Martín had good feelings, as he described: ‘It was difficult. Anyway, as soon as I did more than two laps, I started to have good confidence, and I was immediately in the top positions. It relieved some stress, and then I felt good’.

#89 then said: ‘We worked on the fit of the bike, we had to change the fit a bit from last season. There are a lot of bumps on the track, so it’s very complicated. But I felt good’.

Asked whether, like Francesco Bagnaia, he feels the 2024 bike is different from the 2023 bike in terms of weight distribution, Martín replied: ‘Pecco has a lot of feelings in these little things, I don’t feel them. It is true that I felt different things, but not because of 2023 or 2024; I don’t know, I just try to do my best. And certainly I lacked a little confidence, which is why we worked in this direction’.
