Apple Vision Pro: the Lapz app allows you to follow Formula 1 with incredible immersion

Before the release of the Apple Vision Pro, an application concept dedicated to Formula 1 was making the rounds on social networks. This concept showed a huge screen broadcasting the race live, accompanied by an interactive map at the bottom of the screen depicting the circuit, with the cars moving in real time. This concept, which attracted the attention of millions of people with its innovative and futuristic side, is now a reality!

The application that Formula 1 enthusiasts have been impatiently waiting for

In , Formula 1 is followed by an increasingly large community of enthusiasts, attracted by the intensity of the races and the growing popularity of drivers like Charles Leclerc or Esteban Ocon, who arouse real national enthusiasm. Today, when you watch , you turn on your and sit comfortably on your sofa. However, this approach does not represent the future!

The Lapz application (currently in beta in TestFlight) wants to reinvent the viewing of Formula 1 and for this, the creators were largely inspired by a concept which created a gigantic buzz on X and Instagram after the announcement of the revolutionary Apple Vision Pro at WWDC 2023. The principle of Lapz is the same as the concept, you have a live stream (like you see on a TV) and displayed in front of you a 3D circuit with the evolution in real time pilots.

The Lapz project is still under development, but it’s at such an advanced stage that the creators decided to open registrations for testing and revealed the app in its entirety to whet our appetites.

Among the highlights that were revealed, we find:

  • Complete visibility of the circuit in 3D with light points which will evolve in real time, these points will represent the drivers in the race
  • Possibility to move the circuit in 3D in the room, to enlarge or reduce it as well as to rotate it
  • Each light point that evolves on the 3D circuit is associated with a small bubble which indicates the identity of the driver
  • Possibility of selecting the pilot bubble in order to have the pilot’s face as well as the live feed from his camera (always in miniature format above the 3D map)
  • Visibility of real-time driver performance in an external window
  • Ability to have multiple live streams (up to 4 in the presentation video)
  • On live streams, ability to go back 10 seconds
  • Ranking of results in an external window

John LePore, who is one of the creators of the Lapz application, explained that he wants to offer an extraordinary experience to Apple Vision Pro users who closely follow Formula 1. The objective of the Lapz application, it is to present complete and hyper-immersive visibility, an experience that one would never find on a television channel.
