Formula 1 | Albon: Sainz already has ideas for ‘different structure’ for Williams

Alex Albon has suggested that Carlos Sainz had the idea of implementing a “different structure” at Williams after his departure from Ferrari.

The Spaniard will join Albon at Williams next year when his four-season spell at the Italian team comes to an end.

Sainz will arrive at an English team looking to move up the F1 hierarchy under James Vowles, who took over as team principal last year after a long spell at Mercedes F1.

Albon will begin his fourth season at the Grove-based team next season, providing Williams with valuable continuity.

When asked if he had spoken in detail with Sainz about their future collaboration, Albon said: “Not too much, no.”

“We spoke more before he signed. Now that he has signed, he is focusing on his work at Ferrari.”

“I’m sure as we get closer and closer to the end of the year, we will resume communications.”

“It is also important for me to tell him the areas where I think we need to strive to strengthen the team as drivers.”

However, Albon also suggested that Sainz’s experience at Ferrari could provide further impetus for Williams in its bid to improve its level of competitiveness.

“There are some structurally different elements at Ferrari and at Williams. He already has some ideas about creating a different structure within the racing team, and I’m quite open to hearing that and seeing what he thinks about it.”
