The current 10th in the English championship was sanctioned after questioning the integrity of the referees.

Nottingham Forest was fined 896,000 euros (750,000 pounds) on Friday for criticizing the video refereeing on its X account during a match lost to Everton last April, the English Football Association said. The Premier League club were furious not to have benefited from three penalties during a 2-0 defeat against Everton, then direct competitors for maintenance.

«Three extremely bad decisions – three penalties not awarded – that we simply cannot accept», Forest wrote on its official X account, accusing the VAR manager of being a supporter of Luton, who was also fighting to avoid relegation.

The FA disappointed by this reaction

The English Football Association (FA) said the comments had brought football into disrepute by “involving bias and/or questioning the integrity of match officials», and had referred the matter to a regulatory commission. “Extremely disappointed“, Forest judged this fine “totally disproportionate» and announced an appeal, according to a club press release.

The club ultimately finished last season in 17th place, six points ahead of Luton, who were relegated along with Burnley and Sheffield United. Nottingham are currently 10th in the Premier League, with just one defeat since the start of the season.
